Sustainable Development

Elément décoratif en forme de vague

Since 2024, Delka has committed to the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Certification – Cycle 1 SDG Pioneer, run by the CCI Liège-Verviers-Namur and recognised by UNITAR (the United Nations agency for sustainable development). This 3-year process is based on an annual plan of ambitious, proportionate and lasting actions, aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), grouped into 5 broad categories known as the “5 Ps”: Planet, People, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership. For our food production, being sustainable is not just about a label: it is a structured re-examination of our practices, from governance to the sauce production workshop, including our purchasing and our teams.

Why can Delka be considered a sustainable company?

Our first year of certification resulted in 13 concrete actions, formally integrating the SDGs into our governance and our supplier purchasing policy. We manage our environmental impact (monitoring of energy/water/waste, carbon footprint, energy-efficient equipment, site biodiversity) while placing our teams’ well-being at the heart of our decisions (reducing physical strain, manager training, soft mobility). This sustainable approach is mainly based on the following SDGs.

Which SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) do we mainly focus on?

While all 17 SDGs inform our overall thinking, certain goals resonate more directly with our reality as a sauce manufacturer in Belgium and are the priority drivers of our action plan:

SDG 5 – Gender Equality: through our commitment to guaranteeing equal access to positions of responsibility and fair remuneration policies, both internally and in our relationships with external partners.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: through the creation of a safe and inclusive working environment, ongoing training for our teams, and the promotion of economic growth in line with sustainability principles.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: at the heart of our purchasing policy, our waste reduction efforts, our use of natural ingredients without unnecessary additives, and our transition to recyclable packaging.

SDG 13 – Climate Action: through the reduction of our CO2 emissions thanks to our solar panels covering 70% of our energy needs, the optimisation of our energy efficiency, and eco-responsible transport practices.

SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: through our transparent governance overseen by Floridienne and external auditors, our fight against corruption, and the promotion of ethical business practices at every level of the production chain.
